Cheap Prom DressesOne of the frugal questions we are asked alot is "How do you find cheap prom dresses?" Our Answer: We start planning for prom a year early if possible. Even 6 months early is good. Early is just a good idea! After prom season is a good time to get prom dresses on sale. Late May or early June. Also around Christmas time is a good time to find a prom dress at a discounted rate. Before and after Christmas sales. We plan what we want to spend on our girls then we tell them this is the budget. We also tell them: If you see the dress you want with a good price on it....call your mom to come and buy it! Don't wait! These are some of the values our girls have found, and what time of year. Cheap Prom Dresses: $35 dollars at after Christmas Sales $15 dollars at after Christmas Sales $25 dollars in June at after prom sales $20 dollars at after Christmas Sales Shoes: $5 dollars in June at after prom sales $3 dollars at after Christmas Sales This method works great for several reasons. The girl picks out what she loves. She gets to be the one to hunt for it, and learn a lesson in bargain hunting, and planning ahead. The girl also is absolutely glowing on prom night. She feels gorgeous, there is no picking the one that costs less even though she wanted something else. For you there is no sitting outside the dressing rooms with the other mom's in the spring time watching your daughter try on dresses you can not afford. She learns the thrill of the hunt for a bargain, and how good it feels to be complimented on her dress choice. Another thing we instruct moms on is to tell the young ladies to look at thrift stores and second hand stores for the dresses. If you pay a small price then you have a little extra to dry clean something. Unless it is sparkly. Yard Sales sometimes have prom dresses also. For hair we always recommend doing it at home. Girls are picky about hair at this age, and I am sorry to say but it usually gets re-done even if a hair dresser does it. You can check out books at the library and if you are good with hair you can help. Or the girls and their friends can do each others hair. If your girl wants her hair done or nails done by a professional tell her you will have to budget for it. Shoes go on sale at the same time and other times of the year. Have your girl be on the look out for the shoes, jewelry etc.... during the year also. The time to start looking for a cheap prom dress is now! Sooner rather than later.
