Frugal Gifts
So how do you get frugal gifts when you need them at a bargain price and never feel like your getting something too expensive because you are in a hurry? Through our own process of elimination. Meaning we tried everything else! The way to give frugal gifts year round is to "Plan Ahead"! It sounds worse than it is we promise! What you do is figure out who you will be buying for during the year. Then each month you set something aside for the gifts. As you find a bargain gift you buy it. This process had added benefits for us. At Christmas we started enjoying ourselves for the first time in years. On birthdays the same enjoyment! Objections we have heard are: "But my kid will want something else if I buy (insert latest toy here)." Or "My Aunt Edna is so hard to buy for she doesn't like anything!" We shifted our outlook on present giving. This outlook has helped us tremendously. We taught it to our kids, and our husbands. Here it is: People do not buy you presents that you want, they buy you presents because they thought of you, and wanted to give you something. You can not expect to get what you want, because its not a present...thats just somebody buying you what you want! Note: Its interesting how this works. Your kids put a lot of thought into why they are getting you a present. Your husband does not have the pressure of finding the perfect present that pleases you. You don't have to have expectations of something they probably won't be able to figure out anyway! It was a relief for all concerned in our family. As for Aunt Edna we say quit buying her stuff and spend time with her. Her house is full and she just would like your time, not your presents! But if you must buy a gift make it something like dinner out at her favorite restaurant, or something else she enjoys. The kind of gift that does not sit around and collect dust! That is one of the places we find good deals. Another place we look for deals is in the clearance section of a store.
